2014 in 2 days and counting…

December 29, 2013 • Leave a Comment

“I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.” ~ Pi Patel, Life of Pi

A Christmas Message

December 25, 2013 • Leave a Comment

β€œI shall spend my heaven doing good on earth.”
~ St. Therese of Lisieux (also St. Therese of the Child Jesus)

Went to hear Christmas Mass at the St. Paul University – Dumaguete Chapel tonight because of Kuya Eking. I’ve always been partial to masses he officiates. Hehe…

Anyway, he left us with those quoted words from his homily after he tackled with the congregation the word messiah. A messiah. THE Messiah. What makes a messiah. To be a messiah means to uplift, to liberate, to bring happiness, healing, heaven. Anyone of us can be a messiah. We are not expected to have to die on a cross though. But simple things, little things, not necessarily directly for others but even something like minding where we throw our garbage, our attitude on the streets as pedestrian or vehicle driver…

Let us bring heaven on earth. Let us be a messiah.

Merry Christmas! πŸ™‚

Pasko na naman

December 23, 2013 • Leave a Comment

O, kay tulin ng araw…

Hala! Pasko na ulit! Whew!

Christmas Belen by LelandVelasco lelandvelasco.deviantart.com

Nag-invite ang Kuya ko na mag-gift giving on Christmas day so pupuntahan namin siya sa bahay on the 25th. Siguro magkakasya na muna kami sa FaceTime at Viber with the rest of the family.

The island that I love, Apo. Time to look forward to meals of fresh fish and veggies! Yum!

Simpleng tanong siguro, did you become a better person this year than you were a year ago?

Ako? As in habang ginagawa ko itong mensahe ko. We connect any way and any time we can. Same with friends.

Anyway, here’s to the new year. Here’s to a better year. To more times spent with loved ones, to more chances to show we care and we love.

Have a happy, meaningful and blessed Christmas everyone! πŸ™‚

Let me rant. This is my page anyway.

Siyempre, bilang 3rd World, it is to be expected, corrupt ang gobyerno natin.

Oo, sige, ipagsigawan natin sa mundo 3RD WORLD ANG PILIPINAS!

Ikaw afford mo. Kapag kasi nakakabasa ako ng ganiyang rant Β mula sa iyo, iyong tungkol sa kakulangan ng Pilipinas para sa komportableng buhay mo, you with your Armani wardrobe and your … punyeta ni hindi ko alam kung ano’ng brand pa meron ka dahil hindi naman ako marunong sa mga brands… you sound just a tad bit pretentious, you know? You can’t even speak straight Filipino, I bet.

Pack your bags and migrate elsewhere, why don’t you?

But you’re just a snob. Isang walang kwentang snob.

Our short-sighted government

December 17, 2013 • Leave a Comment

One time, I read a newsbit on Twitter about the town of Dagupan (I think?) passing a resolution to restrict underaged / teenage patrons to check in these roadside motels. That’s in answer to the prevention of early and unwanted teenage pregnancies and premarital sex. Then there’s this recent Martilyo Gang hit at the SM North and the authorities answer with restraining these hardware stores from selling hammers and crowbars. Another case is when there are transportations mishaps. A boat / ship sinks, a bus nosedives from a flyover… How do we answer? Suspend the franchise, and file criminal charges against the driver and/or operator.

What a load of shit.

1) You want to prevent teenage and unwanted pregnancies? For crying out loud, education and information is the answer. Teach the kids what happens when they engage in these actions. Know the saying ‘Curiosity killed the cat?’ Well, curiosity gets them pregnant, too. Morality issues? Do these people believe they are more on morality’s side when they shun the idea of sex education and promote life instead? Whose life? What kind of life? The teens are barely out of their childhood. What kind of child-rearing skills can they employ?

2) No more selling of hammers and crowbars, huh? Might as well ask the stores not to sell chemical-based stuff either, you know? Do you think, that if you stop selling these stuff, thieves and whoever wants to do damage, can refrain from using other stuff so they can have their way? Don’t you authority figures know that certain cooking implements can actually be combined to form explosives? Why not intensify security instead? Employ well-trained guards who will not hesitate to tackle offenders. Install anti-theft devices and equipment. Get K-9 support. What the fudge are they all thinking, just mandating to remove these metal items from the merchandise roster?

3) So after suspending the transportation franchise for a specific length of time, what then? What about implementing stricter regulations in giving out franchises and licenses? What about traffic rules? Embarkation rules? Why not look at these? Won’t these be better at preventing accidents and catastrophes?

Really, the reason why we, as a nation, remain as backward as the next 3rd World Country? It’s because our lawmakers, our authority figures are so short sighted, they only plan for the immediate remedy, forgetting that the problem can easily outrun and outgun that.
