I’m okay and other news

November 12, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Dear family and friends,

Dumaguete/Sibulan (where I live now) is safe. 🙂

Update lang as of today, 12 November, Signal number 1 dahil kay Zoraida.

I am waiting for better weather to go to Cebu. A friend is on her way to Tacloban to fetch her Mom and daughter and I will meet them in Cebu to provide additional help. Please pray they get out soon.

Every little bit of help counts.

That’s it for now. Salamat!

Ako eto lang, noh…

1. Maraming aid ang dumarating for relief and rescue operations of Yolanda/Haiyan victims. And that the government will encourage the private organizations who are gathering their own funds to do the same. Sir, aasahan namin ‘yan, ha.

2. There are very real difficulties the government faces in carrying out these operations. These are men we are talking about. Men. They are not superhuman, they possess no superhuman powers. So what’s new ‘ika nga? There’s more to relief and rescue operations than getting the goods to those who need it. Mag-volunteer ka kaya, no?

3. Maraming devastated sa kalamidad na ito. Of course, life goes on. Pero malamang marami kang kaibigan na may mga kamag-anak o kaibigan din na in one way or another naapektuhan – they were trapped, they are traumatized, they have family members they lost, at marami pang iba. Let’s all practice a little sensitivity.

Sama-sama tayo dito. Bangon Pilipinas! Tindog Visayas!

Maybe

Maybe I’m just imagining it
Maybe I’m overreacting
Maybe I can’t read you right
Maybe I’m just pretending

Maybe we’re drifting apart
Maybe there was nothing to begin with
Maybe I put too much meaning
When you didn’t really mean it

Because now my heart is hurting
Something must have gone wrong
Somewhere along the way
I know I must have done wrong

Maybe because I’m presumptious
Maybe really I’m not worth that much
Maybe it’s time I accepted
Maybe letting go is our next stop

After the storm

I am truly thankful that #YolandaPH spared our area. My heart, though, weighs heavy with the thought of fellow Filipinos in the hardest hit areas whose homes and lives were savaged by the storm. My heart cries for my friends who have no news of their family from these places.

But life goes on. Yolanda has left. Today I actually did my laundry, taking advantage of the heat. In the afternoon, as a stand-in for my parents, I joined a group of Holy Land pilgrims for their reunion and merry-making here in Dumaguete.

Amid today’s happy get-together, I remember in prayer, our country and our people and call our strengths as Filipinos. Resilient. Vibrant. Alive.

My epitaph

November 5, 2013 • Leave a Comment

when i die
will you cry?
would i have left
with things
you’d remember
me by?

when i die
will you think
i was a good friend
a daughter
a cousin
a sister
a mother

when i die
will you miss me?
will you think
life was better
when i was alive
when we shared tears
when we shared smiles

when i die
will i have left
people thinking
i lived a life
i chose for me
one i liked
one i loved
one i truly lived

when i die
will you remember
how i loved you
have i ever told you?
did i ever say it
often enough
and made you feel
i do?

when i die
will i be more
than just a corpse
a cold body
a pile of ashes
in an urn

i hope
when i die
i would have left
this world
with more than just
my name
i want to leave
my heart
my warmth
my love

when i die,
i ask again
will you remember?
will you cry?
