There is no need, I believe, to describe what your character is doing twice. If your readers wanted word synonyms, there’s a thesaurus to help them with that. You’re just cluttering up your prose that way. It’s irritating. And make your character do something else other than ‘wonder suddenly.’ What? He/She possesses no foresight or is always caught unaware? Such a pathetic reaction, if you ask me.
