(In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here’s what they say)When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantellaWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore

Ah, love… L’amour… Amore… Pag-ibig…
It comes in many forms, shapes and sizes, different times, different situations, different locations. But a lot of times, the woes of a person, especially a young person, is centered on asking for the romantic kind of love from the member of the opposite (or, for some, the same) sex. That happiness and the feeling of being fulfilled in life are anchored on the constant and loving presence of another person. Without the one providing the love angle, the poor waiting individual has become a sad sight for the more wise.
I am not really a wise person. Neither am I a cynic. Nor sourgraping over anything. I’d had my share of hankering for love. Yes, from someone of the opposite sex. I’d wished and dreamed of a happy relationship. A fulfilling one where he and I could live content, notwithstanding the built-in hardships that go with having a relationship, together for the rest of our lives.
However, life had other plans. And those other plans taught me that a committed romantic relationship, though admittedly could very well be satisfying and fulfilling, is not the only happiness. It’s not the only reason I can feel alive.
I live and breathe, do I not? I wake up everyday, have food on my table, things and stuff to enjoy. I have family and friends and they love me and care for me. So what if I have no significant other? Life goes on.
I wish I could hug every young person who thinks he/she is unloved just because there is no romance in his/her life. I wish I could make each of them feel that they each are worth a lot as a person. As an individual.
Nasaan ka na, pag-ibig?
I’d read this status update from someone somewhere. To this I can only say, Matuto ka munang magmahal. Saka ka mahahanap ng pag-ibig. (Learn to love. Only then can love find you.)
Cheers!
