Wala po ba kwento si….

November 27, 2012 • Leave a Comment

When you write [humor], people think that you just record into a tape recorder and then someone else transcribes your words. It doesn’t occur to them that you have to choose this word over that word—and do so very carefully. …  Most people have no concept of writing, or what’s involved with the process.

DAVID SEDARIS

It’s nice to wonder what happens next to any couple after reading ‘The End’ on the last page of a romantic love story. It’s also nice to wonder about what happens to the hero and heroine’s companions who accompanied our protagonists through every emotional turmoil to reach the glorious happy ever after. And so we creators of said stories get bombarded with…

Wala po ba kwento si (insert name of secondary / tertiary / n’th extra here)? Sana po meron. Sana po maisulat agad. Can’t wait to read about them.

*sigh*

Dear readers, you may have just enjoyed an easy read, but it isn’t easy to create your easy read. Coming up with interesting plots and writing them down is not a walk in the park. It takes blood, sweat and tears to even start on a catchy first line, let alone a whole novel. (Okay, stop the cliches already.)

FYI, writing is especially difficult when there’s nothing in store in the first place for the characters you are asking stories for. Sometimes, they are just that – extras. They have no background and no personality except to be sounding boards for the protagonists.

Of course, the questions may have just been asked out of curiosity and that’s fine. But some don’t know the difference between being curious and being demanding. One simply does not demand for stories unless you’re our editor and therefore have the capacity to require-suggest sequels or prequels.

So again, not to sound like a snob or anything, this post is just a reminder that hey, writing takes work. No matter how good a writer is, it takes so much effort to cough up stories. And though we all love our readers and all but your requests cannot all be granted. Sorry ’bout that.

Another Up and Coming!

November 23, 2012 • 6 Comments

High on Love….

How very mature of you, Imelda. Sobrang mature, it’s actually pathetic, aniya sa sarili.
At parating amoy bagong shampoo.
Oh. My. God. She’d forgotten he could always mesmerize her. She’d forgotten he had that appeal.
“Mr. Gatdula, Mr. Bautista, this is Agent Imelda Tuazon, isa sa pinakamagaling na agent namin.”
“Please call me Cadio.”
“Gentlemen, ipagpaumanhin n’yo, kailangan ko kayong iwan,” anang RD. “Ivy, take the lead, paki-fill in na lang si Ramir when he comes in tomorrow.”
He’s just on assignment today,” paliwanag niya. “Excuse me sandali, magpapakuha lang ako ng merienda para sa inyo and I’ll also get the files you need.”
“You’re doing fine, Pare,” ani Cadio.
I do?

Watch for it! 🙂

My Happy Place

November 23, 2012 • Leave a Comment

I’ve been living in Dumaguete for the last four years now and one thing I can say about this place, aside from the fact that my muses got back their groove here (yes, sila talaga, hindi ako), THE FOOD IS GREAT!

I mean, whenever friends ask me what is fun to do here, I’d mention the usual stuff – visit the bell tower, the cathedral, go to the beach, go snorkeling, hang out at the Rizal Boulevard. But I’d always say the best thing to do here is to EAT! Yes, ladies and gents, FOOD TRIP is something to actually look forward to here. From restaurant food to carinderia food to street food, there’s no such thing here as a bad meal. Only better ones from the other eatery. hehehe!

There’s one particular place I love coming back to if at all possible, at least twice a week. I’m talking about Gabby’s Bistro at Florentina Homes.

Florentina Homes, Brgy. Bantayan, Dumaguete City

Food’s really really good at really really affordable prices and the place is just so cozy homey that you’d not mind overstaying for like, a whole day. You can start at breakfast, go through lunch, afternoon snack and all the way to dinner and late night snack / meal. With desserts at that!

Bring your laptop / netbook / iPad / tablet / whatever gadget, too as the place offers free wifi! I do. I work there when it get’s too stuffy at home and well, generally when I am too lazy to cook for myself and there’s not a scrap of bread left to munch on to satisfy my hunger pangs.

And I’m doing this blog entry because it is a long-overdue tribute which I should have done since I was introduced to the place by a friend the first month of my stay in Dumaguete. I’ve kept coming back here with my trusty laptop in tow, making my stories. Many scenes from quite a number of my manuscripts were written / finished / thought of at Gabby’s over gremolata fish fillet. Or cheezy chicken rice bowl. Or shrimp scampi pasta. Or soup, salad and fried mozzarella sticks. Or yummy apple crumble with a double scoop of vanilla ice cream. And bottomless iced tea or lemonade. Yum!

Dessa, thank you sistah, for bringing me here. I’ve brought many of my friends here. I’m sure every new visitor I have who hails from Manila (or any other place outside of Dumaguete) will get to experience Gabby’s Bistro. Thanks, Gabby and family, for coming up with such a wonderful place.

My sweets Elise will agree, this is a happy place. 🙂

I ♥ Postcards

November 20, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Dear followers of my blog,

I love postcards! They allow me to travel without having to leave my seat and my little home. Very inexpensive too! Do you live outside the Philippines? Heck, do you live outside Negros, the province where I currently live? Could you do me a favor?

If it’s not too much to ask, and if it’s not too much trouble, can you send me a postcard? Something that shows the beauty of the place you are from. Drop me a message at jette1013@yahoo.com so I can give you my mailing address.

Thank you soooooo much! ♥
