When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn’t going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is a graduate of De La Salle University – Manila with an Bachelor of Arts in Literature. She taught high school English for three years and was an essay consultant for two. When I started writing No Love Allowed, I knew right away that Nathan will have his own story and it will be LGBTQ. I’ve always wanted to write a romance about two boys falling in love. No Holding Back is my first, but it will certainly not be my last. The whole story took a few months to come together. It was so much fun to write.
What was easy/difficult about writing this particular story?
Writing about Europe without actually having been there. I hope my words are authentic enough. I actually have a feeling that had I gone to Europe before writing this, the book will only be about describing the places Nathan and Preston visit.
What part/scene is the most memorable/packs the most punch to you as its author?
I will have to say it’s the shower scene. I’m very proud of it. I’ve always wanted to incorporate a steamy scene like that. Pun intended.
In terms of reader impression, what is it you hope this novel would achieve?
That we live in a world where it’s no longer boy meets girl but person meets person. Love is for everyone.
As a writer living in the Philippines, what are the perks/difficulties you encounter?
I guess the difficulties would have to be not being able to attend as many of the conferences available in the US. My bucket list contains attending RT Convention and BEA and to actually have a US signing tour.
What’s next for Kate Evangelista? What can we expect soon?
I’m currently in the editing phase of No Second Chances, the third book in the series. Watch out for Natasha and Jackson. Their story is one for the ages.
