I’m not a mother. At least, not biologically. But through friends, associates, acquaintances, the academe, I’ve managed to sort of gather a sizable number of offspring, some of whom I ‘adopted’ consciously, the others ‘adopted’ me as their mom.
Anyway, this daughter of mine was a student in Dumaguete. One time, we were out having a meal together, we saw this baby with a group from the other table, I kinda gushed at how cute the baby was and I said so. She told me, gawa ka na, Mommy, to which I replied, sandali, hahanap lang ako ng katulong gumawa at hindi ko naman kayang gumawa niyan mag-isa. She just shrugged. Then said, kahit siguro hindi na, Mommy kasi marami naman nagmamahal sa iyo na anak mo.
I smiled. I was touched. 🙂
I can’t say she’s the closest to me, as there are others who are just as close. But she is one well-loved and well appreciated. And I am proud of her. A few days back she’d been asking me what my favorite song was, and apparently, this was what it was for: a slideshow presentation from which I will post one slide. The one that touched my heart deeply.
Thank you for a most wonderful birthday gift, my sweet Rica. I love you very much!
